One thing why people avoid using leather bags is that they believe in the fact that it is bad for the animals and the environment. But wait, did you calculate the time span a good leather bag would serve you? It will save the cost of the damage caused to the environment and will serve you for years. 

Now, let's move towards the main thing we are here to talk about, it is the cleanliness and health of your leather bag! 

The first fact, you need to store in your mind is that your leather bag has come from a living animal. The skin once lived and has been preserved and stored through a process from decaying. So in a way or the other, it is still living.

Never store a leather bag in a humid place. The humidity will turn the crisp body of your bag into limp and it might give a bad smell too. If It turns out to be smelly, it is hard to remove odor from the leather bag.

Never store a leather bag in a place which is not airy. The reasons are the same, the leather bag (being an animal’s skin) will not be able to breathe and the bag will eventually show breakages and cracks earlier than it should.

Never leave your bag out in the sun for too long, the leather bag, if made of full grain leather, it will fade and the sunlight will react to the color of the leather naturally.

How to remove odor from leather? Before anything else, you should properly dust and wipe your leather bag inside out. This will collect all the debris. A damp cloth will do better, as it will collect all the mildew resting in the corners too. 

Let the bag air dry outside somewhere, but be very sure that the bag is not placed under direct sunlight. Place it in a sheltered place but outdoor! 

Leave it for an hour or so and check the odor. 

If the odor still rests, then try wiping with a damp cloth and a little washing detergent. Wipe it off and clean it again with a damp cloth and repeat the air-dry process. This wills surely remove the odor. 

Keep your leather bag in an open space and let it breathe form now on, this is how you can take your leather bag along with you down the road!
